Rep Oye Urges DC Council to Pass More Laws

Lacking DC Statehood, locally passed legislation only becomes law after going through Congress. Due to this, Congress has the power to kill any bill passed by DC Council. In 2023, a Republican controlled Congress successfully overturned DC’s revised criminal code. An incoming Trump’s Presidency and GOP controlled Senate presents a huge challenge for locally passed bills. To reduce the risk of constant federal interference, I implore Mayor Bowser and DC Council to pass much legislation as possible before the end of 2024.
